What That Blue Truck Parked Outside Means to Us
If you have driven by our location lately, you may have seen the bright, beautiful blue 1963 Apache C20 Chevy Pick-Up truck parked outside. We are very happy to have this gorgeous, refurbished classic automobile with our name on it and the history and meaning behind the truck is one that is very special to us. We are so honored to share this small yet so meaningful piece of our history with you.
Our Beginnings
Hobaica Refrigeration was started by Paul Hobaica out of his home in 1952. Back from serving in WWII and eager to put his entrepreneurial spirit to work, Paul started his own small business with one truck and one employee, himself. With hard work and determination, Paul, his service truck, and the name Hobaica began to be known around town for skill and reliable service.
Paul’s company continued to grow over the years, as did his family. Instead of owning just one service truck, his company grew to own several. In addition, his family grew to include a wife and seven children. A family-owned and operated company, the Hobaicas all worked for the family business, eventually taking over the operation when Paul was ready to retire.
Finding A Treasure
Not long ago, the owner of a local scrapyard was kind enough to get in touch to say he had found something they may be interested in. Lo and behold, it was a door of one of Paul’s first service trucks, a long-forgotten treasure found decades later. While the truck could not be found, they did manage to acquire the original door to the truck.
Finding this piece of history inspired Paul’s boys to search for a truck that could connect the business their father worked so hard to establish with the promise of its successful future. They found a truck of the same model as their father’s first new branded truck, purchased it and proudly put the vintage Hobaica name and logo on the side.
This truck, lovingly referred to by the company as “Lola”, truly symbolizes the spirit of the Hobaica business- it is fully refurbished with many modern conveniences and features, yet is a classic, sturdy, solid piece of machinery.
