SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The SEER rating measures the efficiency of air conditioners based the energy (electricity) they consume vs. the quantity of cool air they produce. Units with a high SEER rating get more “miles per gallon” than their lower-rated counterparts, a low SEER is considered a rating of 12 or under. High efficiency units are rated from 13 to 19.5 SEER. Higher SEER Ratings translate into saving energy and money!
MERV
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. MERV measures the effectiveness of air filters. The higher the rating, the more airborne particles are trapped. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends using a filter with a MERV 13 rating. But wait! Don’t run out for a high MERV filter without consulting one of our Qualified Comfort Specialists. Higher MERV filters are more restrictive, which could lead to inhibited airflow possibly causing system malfunctions or damage.
